Dispatch from Red Sox Nation

Scene: Pastor's Office

Occasion: Pre-baptism counseling with Mom, Dad and 6-week old Baby

Magdalene: Oh, what a cute baby! And what a great Yankee's onesie!

Dad: Yeah, he's a die-hard Yankee fan.

Magdalene: Well, you should probably know that I'm a Red Sox fan.

(Pause)

Dad (to Mom): We gotta find someone else to do this.

Sequel: Magdalene baptizes Baby. Everyone lives. Sox rule!!!

Heee. Excellent.

Even if both teams are, you know, American Leauge and therefore aren't real baseball (Designated hitter? WtH?).

Go Giants!

(p.s. I really rolled over here to thank you for the comment on my blog, and to let you know that though this will be my 6th participation in NaNoWriMo, I've 'won' exactly once, with a novel called "Real Men Love Jesus". :D )

Iris, LOL! And Mary Sue, I respect your opinion on the designated hitter. It is absurd.

MoreCows, you know I am crazy. Your point?

Wyld, the Brewers. Ah. Then you know what we Red Sox fan endured for so many years. You know why this is so sweet.

You also know, as well as I, that it could fall apart any moment.

How about this: May the best team (that's not the Yankees) win!

Mags, I would have done the same.

I actually did the first day of class when a student (otherwise a very nice boy) walked into my classroom wearing a Yankees cap. (Why there are more faculty with Red Sox gear and more students with Yankees gear on our campus is a fascinating question for which I have not yet found an answer.)

I said in public that in the interests of full disclosure, they all needed to know that I was a Red Sox fan but that this would not affect the grades of Yankees fans. (It was part of the announcement where I tell them I don't grade people on whether they agree with me or not.)

Yankees onesies... ugh..
